I'm the founder of Function First Rehab, and I help active adults and athletes get back to doing the things they love after injury, surgery or a frustrating period of rehabilitation that simply hasn't got them where they want to be.
For me, this work is personal.
In my early 30s, I experienced chronic back pain that completely changed my day-to-day life. I went from being active and independent to struggling with things I had always taken for granted — exercising, sleeping, driving and even everyday jobs around the house.
Like many people with a persistent injury, I looked everywhere for answers. I saw different therapists and consultants, received different opinions and tried different approaches, but I never really felt that I had a clear plan for getting myself back.
Eventually, I realised I needed more than treatment.
I needed to understand what was happening, rebuild trust in my body and gradually become strong and capable again.
That experience has had a huge influence on the way I work today.
Over the past 10 years, I've had the privilege of working with more than 1,000 people, and one thing I've seen time and time again is the gap that can exist between feeling a little better and actually feeling ready to return to your life.
You might no longer need regular treatment, but you're still not confident running.
You might have been discharged after surgery, but you're nowhere near ready for the gym.
Or perhaps your pain keeps settling down, only to return every time you try to increase your activity.
That's the gap I want to help you bridge.
How I work
I don't believe rehabilitation should simply be a list of exercises to complete.
I want you to understand why we're doing what we're doing, feel involved in your recovery and know that your programme is being shaped around you — your body, your history and, most importantly, what you want to get back to.
We'll look at the bigger picture, gradually rebuild your movement, strength and capacity, and regularly assess how you're progressing so we know when to move forward — or when your body needs a little more time.
My approach follows a simple journey:
And throughout that journey, my role is to coach and guide you rather than simply hand you a programme and send you on your way.
Because having experienced the frustration of injury myself, I know how much it can take away from you.
And I also know how empowering it feels when you start trusting your body again.
For me, successful rehabilitation isn't just about being pain-free.
It's about getting back to running, training, playing your sport, enjoying your active life — or whatever feeling like yourself again means to you.
That's what Function First Rehab is here to help you achieve.
Move better. Feel stronger. Live fully.
